Red Deer Neighbourhood Guide
Johnstone, Red Deer
Johnstone Park and Johnstone Crossing form a newer residential area in northwest Red Deer, with parks, pathways and convenient access to major routes and north-end services. For homeowners, the useful question isn't simply what Red Deer homes are worth — it's what buyers are actually paying for comparable homes nearby.
What Johnstone is like
Johnstone is on Red Deer’s northwest side and, for this guide, includes Johnstone Park and Johnstone Crossing. They are separate City neighbourhoods, but buyers and homeowners often think of them together as the broader Johnstone area.
Most of the neighbourhood developed through the 2000s, so the housing stock is newer than many of Red Deer’s central and west-side communities. Detached homes include a strong mix of bi-levels, bungalows and two-storey homes, along with semi-detached and multi-family housing elsewhere in the area.
Johnstone Crossing was designed around an interconnected open-space system, with a neighbourhood park, smaller park spaces and pathways extending through the community. Johnstone Park has its own neighbourhood green spaces and recreation areas as well.
The northwest location provides convenient access toward Taylor Drive, Highway 2 and north-end shopping and services, while the interior streets and closes remain primarily residential.
For homeowners: Johnstone Park and Johnstone Crossing should not automatically be treated as interchangeable when valuing a property. Even within the same broader area, home style, size, garage, basement development and location can create a meaningful difference in value.
Schools, parks and recreation
For Red Deer Public Schools, Johnstone Park and Johnstone Crossing are currently designated to Glendale School at the elementary level, Glendale School at the middle-school level and Lindsay Thurber Comprehensive High School.
In the Catholic system, Johnstone Park and Johnstone Crossing are currently within the St. Teresa of Avila elementary catchment, St. Lorenzo Ruiz Middle School catchment and St. Joseph High School catchment. Families should confirm current boundaries directly with the school division for a specific address.
Recreation is built into the neighbourhood. The City maintains outdoor tennis courts at Jordan Parkway and Jennings Crescent in Johnstone Crossing, and the same location is used for outdoor pickleball. Outdoor skating sites are also identified in both Johnstone Crossing and Johnstone Park.
The original Johnstone Crossing neighbourhood plan placed a strong emphasis on an open-space network, including a neighbourhood park, playground areas, a linear pathway connection, a multi-purpose pad and other recreation space.

Recent sales tell us what buyers have paid. Current listings tell us what homeowners are competing against today. Both matter when you're trying to understand where your property fits in the current market.
View Red Deer ListingsWhat did that house down the street actually sell for?
That's usually the number homeowners really want to know. The asking price tells you what the seller hoped to get. The final sale price tells us what a buyer was actually prepared to pay.
But the next question matters just as much: how much was that house actually like yours?
A bi-level in Johnstone Park may not be the right comparison for a larger two-storey in Johnstone Crossing. Garage size, basement development, upgrades, lot, location and overall condition all affect how buyers compare one property with another.
I can review recent Johnstone sales and show you which properties are genuinely useful comparisons for your home — and which ones probably aren't.
The $416,900 Johnstone median is a useful market benchmark, not an automatic value for your home. The better answer comes from identifying the sales buyers would actually compare with your property.
